Arrival in Lima and welcome at the airport. Transfer to the Britania hotel in the Miraflores district. Overnight at the hotel.
Transfer to the airport and flight to Arequipa, Peru's second city, whose colonial center is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Transfer to the Casa Andina Classic hotel in the historic center. Rest of the day free and overnight at the hotel.
Very early in the morning, departure for the Colca Canyon with your guide. After lunch in the village of Cabanaconde (3,300 m), you begin your first trek in Peru with a descent into the canyon along a mule path that clings to the volcanic rock walls, down to the village of San Juan (2,300 m), located at the bottom of the canyon, on the riverbank. Dinner and overnight in a refuge (basic comfort).
After breakfast, you climb back up on the other bank of the Colca and pass through the picturesque villages of Cosñirhua and Malata, before descending back to the bottom of the canyon at the Oasis, where you have lunch. You can also relax in the pools. In the afternoon, you climb back up the 1,000-meter elevation gain to Cabanaconde, where you have dinner and sleep at a hotel (simple hotel, private bathroom, and hot water).
After an early breakfast, you take the bus that takes you to the Cruz del Condor where you can admire one of the most extraordinary viewpoints over the canyon. You may also observe the majestic flight of condors. You take the bus back to Chivay, where you have lunch (not included). You can take the opportunity to bathe in the La Calera hot springs (optional, entrance of about 4 US$ not included). Return to Arequipa in the late afternoon. Overnight at the Casa Andina Classic hotel.
In the morning, you will travel toward Lake Titicaca, crossing a good part of the Peruvian altiplano. In the afternoon, arrival in Puno, a city on the edge of the lake, and transfer to the Hacienda Plaza hotel. Free late afternoon to visit the city and acclimatize to the altitude. Overnight at the hotel.
Today, we offer you a short 2-hour walk along Lake Titicaca. You leave in the morning toward Socca, a peninsula off the tourist trail, home to Aymara communities. The hike will offer you some fantastic viewpoints over the vastness of the lake, its islands, and the mountain range on the Bolivian shore. You will picnic by the lake and be back in Puno in the early afternoon. Overnight at the hotel.
It is also possible to do the more classic excursion on the lake, visiting the floating Uros islands, and/or Taquile or Amantani.
In the morning, departure by superior-class bus toward Cuzco. After a journey of about 6 hours across the altiplano and the Andean Vilcanota valley, arrival in Cuzco, capital of the Inca empire. Transfer and overnight at the San Agustin Internacional hotel. Free late afternoon and overnight at the hotel.
Departure from the hotel early in the morning by minibus toward the village of Mollepata, from where you begin your second trek in Peru to Cruzpata where you have lunch. You continue your walk in the afternoon to Soraypampa where you will spend your first night camping.
Today a difficult 7-hour hiking day awaits you, as you will climb the slopes of the Nevado Umantay up to a pass at 4,600 meters. Your efforts will be rewarded with a spectacular view over the entire Nevado Salkantay massif. You then descend to your campsite at Challway.
You will descend in altitude to gradually enter a semi-tropical forest environment. You will stop at hot springs, then follow the course of the Río Santa Teresa, dotted with waterfalls and a variety of orchids unique to this region of Peru. After 6 hours of trekking, arrival at Sahuayaco, where you set up your last campsite.
In the morning, you continue your descent through coffee and coca crops, and various fruit trees depending on the season. In the afternoon, you reach the Vilcanota river and the hydroelectric plant, from where you continue to Aguas Calientes along the railway line. It is also possible to take the train on this route if you wish (optional). After 4 days of trekking and 3 nights of camping, you will appreciate hot water and other comforts of civilization. Overnight at the Andina Luxury hotel.
Early rise and departure toward the ultimate goal of your trek, Machu Picchu, wonder of Peru and of the world. After a 2-hour guided tour of this exceptional site, you will still have time to freely discover every corner of it. You descend to Aguas Calientes in the afternoon to take the train to Cuzco. Overnight at the San Agustin Internacional hotel.
Early in the morning, departure from the hotel toward the province of Caraz. After breakfast you will reach the village of Cashapampa, the meeting point with the porters and the starting point of your last trek in Peru in the middle of Huascarán National Park. Along the way, you will be able to enjoy the incredible view of the mountain range. Dinner and overnight camping at Llamacorral (3,800 meters).
Departure in the morning along the Ichiccocha and Jatuncocha lagoons, the latter an impressive turquoise color, from where you can see the snow-capped peaks of Caraz and Pumapampa. Lunch break at the "Quiswar Woods" before setting off again toward the Arhuaycocha valley, where you will have a view of the Alpamayo, one of the most beautiful mountains in Peru, as well as the Quitarraju which rises to over 6,000 m. You then continue toward the Taullipampa campsite (4,200 m) from where the imposing Taulliraju can be seen. Dinner and overnight camping.
On this third day of trekking, you will pass through the Punta Union pass at 4,750 meters, from where you will have a magnificent view over the Santa Cruz and Huaripampa valleys. Perhaps you will be lucky enough to spot a condor flying overhead. You then descend toward the Huaripampa valley, at the foot of the imposing Chacraraju. In the afternoon, you reach the Cachina campsite with a view of the Taulliraju. Dinner and overnight camping.
Last day of trekking, you leave Huascarán National Park to reach the village of Huaripampa, where you will meet your vehicle for departure toward Portachuelo. The vehicle will make stops to let you admire the most important mountains of the Cordillera Blanca: the Nevado Huascarán, the highest peak in Peru (6,789 m), the Huandoy peaks, the Chopicalqui, as well as the superb Llanganuco lagoon. On the way back, you will make one last stop at Yungay, a town whose 25,000 inhabitants were buried in 1970 by a mudslide. Return to Huaraz and overnight at the El Patio de Monterrey hotel.
Transfer to the airport in Lima. End of your "Peru on Foot" trip.
